Three Main Methods of Credit Card Processing

There are three main methods of credit card processing. You can, of course, process the credit cards yourself. This is accomplished by registering with the credit card companies and paying them a fee per transaction to process your transactions. This can be time consuming, however, if you get many orders every day or week. The easiest method of credit card processing is to set up a merchant account. This requires an application and set up fee with merchant providers or financial institutions. You will also have to pay per transaction, but all of the actual processing of the credit cards is handled for you.
You can also opt for another simple method of credit card processing, called an internet payment gateway, such as PayPal. This method does not require any real application or approval, and is very simple to set up. You pay a small fee per transaction, and people can pay via a link on your website by their own payment account, credit card, or even by check. This is the method most preferred by many small and home based businesses. Larger companies, or those that do large volumes of sales, should look at merchant accounts instead, simply because they allow for a more professional appearance.
